Detective AU

None of this is canon to the main story.

A young man entered an office, closing the door behind him.

“You wanted to see me, boss?”

The man sitting at the desk looked up at the younger man who spoke, “Yes, please sit down Detective Crow.”

“Am I in trouble, sir?”

“Oh no, I wanted to assign you a new case.”

The older man handed the detective a stack of folders.

“I need you to investigate into these murders or you lose your job.”

“Captain, are... Are you serious? I'm your best detective!”

The older man shrugged, “Then this shouldn't be a problem for you, yes?”

The detective shook his head, “Captain, I haven't had any problems! Why am I on the verge of losing my job!”

“Detective, you have a file of complaints against you. Lying about your gender is another thing, how can I be sure you aren't a Russian spy if you're lying about you being a man. I don't hate your people but your partners are uncomfortable with it,” the older man said. (I wanted to add more of a push back but I'm not sure if it would've been school appropriate since transphobia is not cool. Also some transphobia can be shown in many different ways like this or outright saying slurs.)

“That is not fair! Captain, you know damn well that I'm a man.”

“Are you sure you're not on your period? You're acting differently than usual.”

“Captain-”

“Enough, you will solve this case or you're out.”

The detective gripped the case files tightly, bitting his lips to stop himself from saying anything.

“Yes, Captain.”

The detective walked out of the older man's office, walking towards his own.

He threw the case file onto his desk. He rubbed his temples, before opening up the flies in front of him.

In the first file, pictures of the crime scene and the autopsy report were ready to be read.

Jaren Smith

The detective flipped through the pictures, a sick feeling crawling up his back.

“Right so let's see... How did you die?”

The office door swing open, “Detective, are you here?” asked a young officer.

“Officer, what can I do for you?” he asked, closing the file.

“There's been another murder... I believe it's connected to the other two murders,” they said.

“Right, has forensics been there yet?”

“Yes, they just finished up.”

“Well, want to show me where it is?”

The officer nodded, before jumping in surprise.

“Detective Walters, you scared me!”

Detective Walters smiled at the young officer, “You have to be more aware of your surroundings, Officer.”

“Right, I’m sorry ma’am.”

A time skip as the drive was quiet

Detective Crow looked around the silent house that the new victim was found in.

He took slow steps, taking in the environment.

A lot of clutter made the home cozy, a few plushies and figures on the shelves.

“Officer, do you know who this was?”

“Her name was Ivy Newton.”

“Is there anything else we know about her?”

The officer and Detective Walters were at the entrance of the house, “Not much, just that she was a hermit. Her neighbors never saw her leave, but they did say that a man kept coming and going every other day.”

“So this guy killed her, why are we here?” Detective Walters questioned, seemingly bored out of her mind.

Detective Crow ignored her, crouching next to the body, putting on gloves. He looked over the body and noticed something on her arm, thinking it was only a tattoo.

He moved the right arm, revealing a carving of a bunny.

How odd... Wait why does it look familiar?

“Did ya find anything?” the woman asked him, pulling the male from his thoughts.

“Kinda? I’m not sure if it’s anything, but it’s a craving of a bunny.”

“A bunny? That’s weird.”

“Yeah, but I can only guess it means something to the killer.”

“What if it doesn’t mean anything?”

Detective Crow looked back at the older woman who’s slouching, “Why do you say that, Faye?” he asked.

“Maybe he just likes bunnies.”

“And he just decides that he wants to cut one into the arm of his victim?”

“Who knows? It just a waste of time to overthink something like that.”

The male shook his head before he stood up, “Officer, are the other victims in the morgue?”

The young officer looked over to him, “Yes sir! They’re both ready to be looked at as well.”

“Do you want me to go with you?”

“No, can you finish up here?”

“Eh, I guess,” she said as she put on her own pair of gloves.

“Thanks, I’m going to see the other two victims.”

“Have fun!”

Detective Crow furrowed his brows a bit before walking out of the house. He took off the gloves he was wearing and threw them away in the trash can that crime scene folks were using.

***

The detective walked into the morgue.

The mortician led Detective Crow to the two victims.

“I have done an autopsy of both of the bodies.”

“Did you find anything?”

“Besides the obvious stabbing in the chest, they both had scars on their chest. Both healed.”

“Can you show me?”

The mortician pulled back the sheet covering the body.

It was top surgery scars.

“I see... Is there anything else?”

“I did find that they had a high amount of sedatives within their system before their death.”

“Question, did they have an abnormal amount of hormones?”

“Yes, they did. How did you know?”

“I think I know why they were murdered...”

***

Detective Crow stood in front of a cork board, pinning pictures of the crime scene. He made sure he had the pictures under the same victim and not to mix them up.

“It seems that only trans folks are getting killed... Jaren got his named changed before moving here... Rachel Powers is a trans woman who was just visiting and our most recent victim is Ivy Newton who was transiting to become Max Newton.”

“Rachel is the only one without the bunny craving...”

“Hey! Whatcha doing, Emi?”

“Faye. I’ve told you not to call me that.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Detective Walters waved him off before looking at his cork board, “You still haven’t answered my question.”

“Just... Coming up with some theories,” he answered her.

“Care to share?”

“Ah... it’s all bare bones at the moment.”

“Boring... Hey... Don’t you have a sister?”

Detective Crow looked over at her, “Why do you ask?”

“Well, I’m just wondering is all...”

“Right... Well, either way, my family isn’t any of your business.”

“Woah there, no need to be rude,” she said before walking closer to him, “Anyway, I wanted to give you this.”

Detective Walters handed him a note, “See ya later!"

Keep going, you can do this!

The detective stared at the bunny drawing, the same one that was craved into the victims.

“I don’t want to say anything yet...”

***

Two more men were killed.

Detective Crow stood in the most recent victim’s house, reading a note that was left behind.

Stop trying to find me or she’s dead.

He knew he had to find Faye, the handwriting along with the bunny drawing and craving is the only thing leading him to her.

But with no real witness placing her here, how could he truly prove it was her?

He left the house taking the note with him.

He pinned the note onto the white board, right next to the one Faye gave him a few days before.

“Detective, are you any closer to closing this case?”

“Captain... With no witness, I cannot make an arrest.”

“I thought you were my best?”

“Captain-”

“Solve it or you’re gone.”

“Yes sir.”

The older man left the office, “What is it bout this case?”

“I can’t lose this job...”

“Not now...”

“I need to confront Faye...”

He grabbed his sticky note along with a pen, “Need to talk, meet me at my office at 3.

Detective Crow walked out of his office and placed the note onto her desk.

***

Both detectives stood in the office, “Whatcha ya wanted talk about?”

“I had some questions for you.”

He had started recording on a tape before she entered. The tape was sitting on the desk.

“Okay, ask away.”

“Why do you always draw a bunny on your notes?”

“Is that really your question?”

“I’m just wondering.”

“Well, I feel like I’m like a bunny at times, plus they’re cute!”

“Huh... Well, what do you think of the victims?”

“In what way?”

“I just want to hear your thoughts on them, maybe you can help me see a different point of view on them.”

Faye looked at him, “I see them as weird, like why would anyone what to be a transgender? Like just be normal!”

“Anything else?”

“You get what I mean, right? They got what they deserve, being transgender is a sin and they’re going to hell for that.”

“Hm... You wouldn’t do anything reckless to prove your point?”

“Like what?”

“I dunno, like telling them what you told me.”

“Maybe, if I ever met one of them folks, I’ll make them regret being one of them transgenders.”

“Right....”

A knock interrupted them, “Come in.”

The young officer came in, “I'm sorry for interrupting, but the captain is wants to see you ma'am.”

Detective Walters hummed, “Right now?”

“Yes ma'am.”

“Well, I'll see you later Emi!”

The detective hummed in response.

The two left him alone in his office.

“Am I wrong to assume it’s her?”

He turned off the tape.

***

Another day has passed, it was now December 19th.

“Emi, are you sure solving this case is still a good idea?”

“Vivi... We have no other choice. You’re still in school and this is the highest paying job around.”

“Just... Be careful.”

“I’ll try, I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Detective Crow left his house, waving at his sister.

After he drove away, a woman walked up to the house.

“Hi, I’m Detective Walters, I work with your brother. Is he here?”

“Um... No, he just left.”

Perfect... Can I come in?”

“No...”

She pulled out a knife, a large grin on her face.

“Wrong Answer.”

***

Emigdio rushed home after hearing his neighbors called the police over there.

“No, please don’t be what I think it is.”

He parked his car next to the police car, getting out to look at what is happening.

He walked over to the young officer, “What’s happening?”

“Sir... Your sister was killed.”

Emigdio felt something crack within him.

“No...”

“I’m sorry sir...”

Emigdio walked into his house, bitting his lip to stop himself from crying.

His sister laid in the living room, blood surrounded her.

Why...

A drawing in her blood next to her caught his attetion. It was that same bunny.

“I have nothing to lose now. You will regret this.”

“I knew, and yet I didn’t do anything. I’m sorry...”

***

He grabbed the phone and dialed Faye.

“Hello?”

“Hey Faye, can you help me at a crime scene?”

“Oh? Sure, where at?”

“At Chimney Rock and Hillcrest.”

“I'll meet you there.”

He hung up the phone, looking around the safe house.

“I have nothing to lose now.”

Emigdio grabbed the gas canister and started to cover everything in gasoline.

Emigdio?”

He hid the gas canister in a random room.

“I’m here Faye.”

“Oh, there ya are! So, what happened here?”

“Not really sure, I got a call to come here. I only checked the living room and kitchen, but I haven’t found anything.”

“Huh... Who called you here?”

“Not really sure, but they claimed to be the killer I’m looking for.”

“That’s not possible.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’m the killer!”

“I knew it.”

Faye stilled, looking at him in shock.

“You actually admitted it! Oh, if only I still cared about my job to have you arrested.”

“You ticked me!”

“You killed my sister.”

“You should’ve stopped looking for me.”

Emigdio pulled out a lighter.

“Maybe you should’ve known what type of person I am.”

He dropped the lighter onto the gasoline covered floor.

Last shot is of the burning house.
