Character Bios for The Chaotic Key
Vivian Estelle Eastvixen, Vivi for short, is a 20-year-old college student who’s studying music production. She lives with her two best friends in a small apartment. Vivi is a bit introverted and shy when you first meet her. She loves to read and listen to music, making music, playing with her cats, the cold weather, the winter, and hanging out with her best friends. Out of the three, Vivi is more in tune with her emotions and with others’ to the point that she’s the only one that can soften up Emigdio’s tough exterior. Vivi and Emigdio are childhood friends who met back in 6th grade. Vivi’s first impression of Emigdio was that he was a bit strange and intimidating, since he was always carrying around a pencil like it was a knife. Although she thought he was strange at first, the two grew close. They’re now inseparable, growing to be like siblings. Vivi and Emigdio were a duo until they met Ava around their freshmen year and they became a trio. The three decided to go to the same college, but for different degrees. Vivi tries her best to keep her grades to be 80s and above, though she finds some of her classes to be boring. She does force herself to pay attention to those lectures. If she struggles with one of her classes, mostly literature or history, she’ll ask Emigdio for help. She’ll usually ask Ava for help with their music writing as they both are pursuing a degree in music, although Ava wants to be more of a producer than a songwriter. Vivi didn’t really have a good childhood, but it also wasn’t a bad one. She tried her best to stay positive and looked for the good in life. Her mother tended to make her feel insecure and self-conscious about her looks and her weight, Vivi’s father spent most of his time working so she didn’t see him much. When she met Jack, she felt like he was sent to keep her alive and find that happiness that she wanted for so long. He was her platonic soulmate, her best friend, and her brother. Vivi knew by his actions that he cared about her, even if they were both struggling with their mental health. She tries to see herself in a good way, but years of passive aggressive comments from her mother holds her back.
Jackson Crow, Jack for short, is a 20-year-old transgender college student who’s studying theology. He was the one who suggested to the other two to live in the same apartment while they were still going to college for their degrees. Although Jack isn’t a religious person himself, he has always been fascinated with how religion worked. He wants to figure out why some religions are more “popular” than others, how to make one and why some people use it as an excuse for their actions. Jack is introverted, but will act as an extrovert if he needs to. He will act as a messenger for Vivi if she’s feeling too shy. Vivi and Ava would call Emigdio the leader of their small group, as he’s the more outspoken one. He loves to read whenever he can, writing, listening to music, playing with his cats, the cold weather, the fall weather, the rain, drawing, and hanging out with his best friends. Out of the three, Emigdio is inquisitive and cautious about everything and everyone, to the point that gaining his trust is a challenge. Due to his hesitation on trusting people, it took him about 6 or so months to fully trust Ava. He has a tendency to ask questions about everything and anything he doesn’t understand, as his curiosity overpowers any other emotions. He holds integrity and loyalty close to his heart, especially since he is only loyal to a few people. Vivi is the only person who he trusts completely as they grew up together. Jack lives for academia as it just feels right for him, like he was made to be a scholar. He does his best to keep his grades above an 85, although he finds some of his classes to be really boring. Though those classes bore him, he makes sure to pay attention and keep a passing grade for them. Emigdio didn’t have a good childhood and sometimes it shows. He suffered neglect from his parents and verbal abuse from his father. Though Jack grew to understand why he was neglected by his mother. Being the youngest child of 4 children, he only had his imagination as a way to distract himself from the pain. His mother had to play both mother and father, as his father was a deadbeat. Jack was also starting to question his gender as his depression grew stronger. When he first met Vivi, he thought that she was too quiet. Vivi, in a way, saved him from his depression getting too bad. He’s forever grateful to her and wants her to be safe and happy. He’s trying his best to love himself as he starts to medically transition while dealing with all the gender dysphoria and doubts.
Ava Kim is a 21-year-old college student who is also studying music. She was the one who found the apartment that they live in. She had a love of producing music beats instead of writing lyrics, unlike Vivi. The both of them liked to write songs together for some of their projects and sometimes asked Emigdio for some song ideas. Ava is the natural extroverted of the three but likes to let Emigdio lead as he had more of a natural charm to him. She tended to keep the group grounded and had a calming effect on the other two. Ava loves to listen and make music, the cold, sunny days, and hanging out with her best friends. Ava, out of the three, is the calmest and grounded, but she is also very curious. Although she doesn’t show it, she feels left out by the other two. She thinks it’s because she’s still new to the group, but at the same time she can’t help her resentment towards Jack. Ava liked to keep her grades around and above 80 to make her mother proud. Ava had a better childhood than Vivi and Jack, but she dealt with the pressure of being the oldest child from her mother. She had to be a good example to her younger sisters and be their second mother. Ava had to be there for them and pay attention to her studies. She finds comfort within her best friends even if she doesn’t have enough time to truly spend with them. She is trying her best to ignore the pressure that rests upon her, but it’s getting too much for her. She didn’t have anyone to talk to when she was younger and now feels like she's a burden to the other two if she needed to talk. Ava wants to break down these walls that she built when she was young, but she also feels like an outsider that was lucky enough to join them.
